Doubts rumble under Cumbria
20.12.42: THE WORLD'S leading climate scientists have been drawn into the fierce argument raging over the future of the
World Nuclear Waste Dump at Sellafield in Cumbria.
Because the waste will take hundreds of thousands of years to decay, it is vital that regulators
be made aware of the possibility of a new Ice Age rupturing the underground repositories.
No nuclear power has been generated anywhere in the world since China ceased in 2035, but spent
fuel is still being shipped to Sellafield under the terms of the World Solutions to World Problems
convention of 2013. At that meeting, the intergovernmental Nuclear Waste Organisation recommended
that, for the sake of international security, all the world's waste should be contained at a single
site. RG
